About the Program
The JAKES Program (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and Sportsmanship) was created by the National Wild Turkey Federation to introduce youth to the outdoors through hands-on learning, ethical hunting practices, and wildlife education.
Each summer, the Tygarts Valley Chapter NWTF hosts a JAKES Day event, generously supported and held at the Mountaineer Chapter grounds.
What to Expect
JAKES Day is a full day of free outdoor activities and nature-based learning. Kids have the opportunity to safely participate in fun, guided experiences like:
Target shooting and clay shooting
Catch-and-release fishing at the chapter pond
WVF&W Stream Shock Survey
Wildlife education stations
All events are run by experienced instructors and volunteers, with a focus on safety, respect for nature, and outdoor ethics.
Our Chapter’s Support
The Mountaineer Chapter proudly supports JAKES Day by:
Hosting the event on our 1,100-acre property
Providing free lunch for all kids, parents, and instructors
Supplying volunteers, materials, and support staff to run activities
