About the Program
Youth Conservation Day is a free outdoor event hosted each year by the Mountaineer Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. Open to all youth ages 8–17, the program introduces kids to the outdoors through safe, hands-on activities and conservation education.
Our goal is to inspire the next generation of sportsmen, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts by giving them a fun and educational day in nature.
What to Expect
Participants rotate through a series of outdoor stations that may include:
Target shooting and clay shooting
Catch-and-release fishing in the stocked pond
Wildlife and plant identification
Conservation and nature skills
Outdoor games and team activities
All stations are supervised by trained volunteers with a strong emphasis on safety and respect for the environment.
What's Provided
Families don’t need to bring anything — the Mountaineer Chapter provides:
All activity equipment
Instruction and supervision
A free lunch for participants and parents
All you need to do is show up and enjoy the day!
